Hello friends! I have a couple new cards to share with you today. These are designed with Mother’s day in mind, but I suppose any mom would love to receive this card any day of the year.
I picked up the flower stamp from Hero Arts and also purchased the coordinating die. For a while I was trying to save money by not purchasing the coordinating dies for many of my stamps. What I learned is that it’s time consuming and I don’t really enjoy fussy cutting everything out so I realized quickly that for me, it’s worth it to purchase the coordinating die on some of the more complicated stamps.
I stamped up a couple of the mums on some neenah solar white 80lb. cardstock and colored them using my copics. For the pink mum, the copic colors I used were RV00, RV09, RV17 and RV29. For the peach colored flower I used copics: R12, RV42, R32 and R14. I die cut them out and set them aside to work on building the rest of the card. This part took me … forever…! I must have ink blended 5-6 different backgrounds to use as the backdrop for my flower behind the circle die-cut. Nothing seemed to work for me and so I finally went to my patterned paper stash and picked a few designs that I liked and went with it.
I stamped up two A2 card panels with a burlap stamp from Unity Stamp co and for the inks, I used a color called Wet Cement and Tattered Rose distress oxide ink for the peach colored card. By the way, this burlap stamp is a great core element stamp to have in your stash to create subtle backgrounds to add dimension and texture to your card. I use this one frequently in my cards.
Once I had my two panels stamped, I die cut the circle using PinkFresh Studios inverted stitched scallop circles die. (Another great die to have in your stash!) Using matching colored card stock for the card base, I adhered the patterned paper down first then adhered the stamped card panel using art foam sheets that were cut to fit. I layered the die cut mum on top and finished it off with a stamped sentiment, “I love you, Mum”.
At this point, the little holes in the scalloped part of the circle were screaming for attention, so I got out my embellishments and chose pearls for the purple flower and golden brown colored rhinestones for peach flower card. These already had adhesive on the back so they were super easy to put on.
As a finishing touch, I like to insert a clean white writing space on the inside of my cards. I used my scalloped edge rectangle die (on 110lb. neenah solar white card stock) and then lightly stamped up the mum flower slightly off the edge of the paper. This is a second generation stamp, so to do this, you generously ink up your stamp and then stamp it first on some scrap paper and then stamp it again on your panel without re-inking the stamp. This gives you a light almost watermark effect to your stamped image. It adds it a bit of color to the inside but is not so dark that the sender couldn’t write over it without losing their words in the image. This is a great way to tie the inside of the card together with the front.
Ok…now to pick out a matching envelope to coordinate with these cards and they are ready for sending! I hope you enjoyed this post and my step-by-step instruction. Please leave a comment if you’d like and by all means don’t forget to subscribe to my blog and never miss an update!
