Today I am showcasing a few more Mother’s Day cards using a this great floral stamp set from Honeybee Stamps.
This first card (Mother & Friend) with the all pink flowers was a bit more time intensive. This stamp set is comprised of individual flowers so if you want to create a realistic looking bouquet, you have to cut out masks for each flower. Once I had stamped and cut the masks, I went to work laying out the design for the bouquet and stamped it up. If you’d like to learn more about this masking technique, here is a link to a video that Jennifer McGuire made that explains it nicely. (she makes awesome tutorial videos!)
I colored the cosmos flowers with my Ohuhu alcohol markers that I just purchased so that I have a full set of markers in my Arizona home when I am here. It’s a bit of a hassle to travel with a full set of copic markers and so this 100-piece set was an affordable solution to have coloring options while I’m working from my Arizona home.
After I was satisfied with my coloring, I fussy cut the flowers out and popped them up (with foam tape for dimension) on a white card base that I first ran through my sizzix bigshot using a polka dot embossing folder to give it some dimension and interest. I love how the bright pink flowers pop on the stark white background.
I created a quick sentiment using white embossing powder on a thin strip that I cut from black card stock. The sentiment is from this a honeybee stamp set. I adhered the card panel to a white 110lb. card stock base, trimmed to an A2 sized card.
The second card didn’t require the masking, but I did have to fussy cut each of the flowers. I individually stamped each flower and then colored them up in some pretty spring colors. By the way – I did google Cosmos Flowers so I could see actual images of the flowers and see what kind of colors to use. I used this as my guide while coloring – it helps a lot to have something to look at when coloring.
After I fussy cut all the flowers and leaves I think I poured myself a glass of wine and give my hand a little break. (ha! – true story). Once my cramped up hand recovered from all the cutting, I pulled out my wonky stitched rectangle die (one of my favs) and ran that through my bigshot to use as my card panel. I spent way too much time arranging the flowers and when I was finally satisfied with the layout, I glued them down into place. I finished it off with a sentiment and heat embossed it for a bit of shine. The final step was to adhere the card panel to a black card base.
Ok, so there you have it…(thank you if you’re still with me this far – I tend to be long winded) I don’t have a ton of craft supplies stocked up yet in my AZ home, so these cards are pretty clean and simple. I hope you like them and I hope all of you mother’s out there have a lovely Mother’s Day get spoiled rotten!
